Running back and forth to the gas station to fill up car and bike tires, lawnmower wheels, boat trailers, and all those things that tend to go flat in the off season can get, well, tiresome. Cut out the back and forth with Black & Decker's air station inflator. This handy unit plugs into any 120 volt outlet in the shop, or garage to quickly and conveniently pump up sports balls, tires, air mattresses and more. It also plugs into auto cigarette lighters and doesn't take up much space in the car, boat, or camper for inflating sleeping pads and tires. The inflator easily inflates tires up to 200 psi. And, there's no more guessing when the tire is filled to capacity. The inflator is equipped with Black & Decker's EZ air dial that automatically shuts off once you've hit the desired psi. Convenient on-board cord, needle, and hose storage keeps all the goods in one place so that you don't have to hunt down the needle to take care of that hard-to-bounce basketball. --Brian D. Olson

Excellent Small Inflator

This air station started paying for itself from the first use. With gas stations charging 50 cents and more for air these days, this is very nice to have on hand. Here are some things to keep in mind when using.

1. You need an extension cord. The unit's cord is way to small to reach around cars and extension cords are cheap.
2. This has a small piston so it will take time to fill car/truck tires. Bicycle tires fill faster.
3. Invest in a good tire gauge. There are a lot of good digital or dial gauges that are very accurate. The station has a gauge on top that can be set to what pressure is needed but it isn't completely accurate.
4. The pumping noise is what should be expected from this small inflator. I have a 12-volt inflator that sounds like a high-pitched mini jet engine so this B&D is quiet in comparison.
5. The valve adaptor is hard plastic but has not been a problem. It would be nice if they would have used brass but then the price would probably be higher.

The air station works on AC or DC current and comes with car adaptor, ball needle and extension nozzle. At $50 it is hard to go wrong here. If treated right, this little air station will last a long time and pay for itself. Well worth adding to the garage for car, truck, bicycle tires and all those sports balls.

It works with with a few annoyances

It works. But the hose is too short and the hide-away space for the cord/hose too small.

Harry 's review of the ASI300 B&D Inflator

Nice product, sturdy and performs as advertised. Very handy to grab and go from the garage out to the driveway to fill all of our cars tires and keep them at the proper pressure. I verified the pressure pump cut off point feature with a digital meter, and the readings were accurate. I am well satisfied with this purchase so far.

Great buy

you can put it on the tire set it fill turn it on and walk away for a few and it finished by itself... it is a good buy.

One star off because it is a little slow for me. I would like it to fill the tires up faster... for bycicles it is perfect but when it comes to car tires prepare some coffee because it takes a while.(im guessing up to 10 min if you start flat)

Nice Little Compressor

Got this compressor last christmas so haven't had it that long yet, but so far it's worked without a hitch. This is a nice little compressor for trim jobs. It's very easy to carry around because of its light weight. It fills up fast and is rather quiet. Got all new windows in my house and have had to case them all. No problems using my trim nailer with this compressor, it would go on about every 7 shots. I highly recommend this compressor for light trimming jobs.

Great compressor

This is a great little compact unit that fits in my trucks front box. So much lighter than my framing compressor, and for slamming in a few studs or running my pin nailer this was the ticket. It's design for the air outlet is great and the unit with it's low profile is stable. I have a lot of Dewalt tools and the brand has always worked to my expectations, I was confident with this recent addition to my tool box. And with the super saver shipping it was at the door in no time. I'm a bags on General Contractor and when tools don't work neither do I, buy this unit and you will like what you get.

Very convenient

I bought this compressor to avoid carrying heavy 5-gallon compressor after having back surgeries. I'm really happy to have this unit.
It's extremely portable that I can carry anywhere even in the attic.
It also maintains enough pressure for flooring stapler, so finish nailer causes absolutely no pressure problem.
I used to use CO2 nailer for small jobs. After buying this, I don't use the expensive CO2 tank any more. This unit is almost as handy as CO2 nailer.
It's amazingly quiet. Really quiet that normal conversation never get interrupted while it's running.

Obviously this is not for big jobs like using two flooring staplers at the same time. And air pressure leaks out fairly quickly after unplug it.
Fittings are not provided, so have to buy everything. That's an extra cost.

I recommend to anyone who need light duty compressor work.

Perfect size for the job!

I was surprised when I opened the box to see a very nice product. It didn't take very long to fill the tank with air. And, Oh I love the sound of the motor (very quiet). I am a woodworker and this compressor is perfect for my projects.

HERB WELDON'S REVIEW FOR D55140

I DO MINIATURE MACHINING AND BUILD TINY STERLING ENGINES. SINCE I AM 100% DISABLED WITH POST-POLIO, I HAVE A "ROLL-AROUND" MACHINE SHOP IN OUR FAMILY ROOM SO I DON'T HAVE TO CLIMB STAIRS FROM THE GARAGE ANY MORE. I HAVE A TWO GALLON AIR "STORAGE-TANK" ON THE BACKSIDE OF MY BENCH FOR CLEARING METAL DEBRIS. I FILL THAT TANK FROM THE LITTLE DEWALT, AND A FILL UP LASTS FROM SEVERAL DAYS TO A WEEK OR MORE. I ONLY NEED VERY SHORT LOW PRESSURE AIR BLASTS. THUS, I ONLY NEED TO FILL THE "STORAGE TANK" ABOUT EVERY 8 DAYS OR SO.

THIS ARRANGEMENT WORKS EXTREMELY WELL FOR ME AS I DO NOT HAVE THE ROOM TO MOUNT THE COMPRESSOR ON THE BACK OF BENCH. BESIDES, THIS GIVES ME A BIT OF NEEDED EXERCISE GETTING THE COMPRESSOR OUT, AND CARRYING IT INTO OUR FAMILY ROOM FOR A "FILL" EVERY WEEK OR SO. NOW, THE PERFORMANCE OF THE LITTLE GUY IS ABSOLUTELY TOP-NOTCH AND QUICKLY FILLS THE STORAGE TANK. IT ALSO HAS A HIGHER PRESSURE CAPACITY (135 POUNDS)THAN MANY SMALL UNITS WHICH GIVES ME LONGER PERIODS BETWEEN FILLS. IT IS PERFECT FOR MY NEEDS AND I AM EXTREMELY SATISFIED.

SOUND ANALYSIS

No pun intended. Lots of reviews so I figured I'd break it down about the sound level.
Nice compressor. Previously used the PC "pancake" POS which was obnoxiously loud for the power, and you would have to stop and wait for more power to use a (one) framing gun. This thing hums and is actually very DIFFICULT to hear when it's either in the house, and you're outside (even with an open door but why do that), or vice versa, with a 50 ft hose. If you then are not in direct path of the compressor (duh keep it around a corner), have a radio on quietly, and keep the door mostly shut, it may be POSSIBLE to hear, but you'd really have to try at it for longer than it's worth. And if it's one room away and you're also indoors, it's quiet an hums smoothly, easily drowned out totally by a normal, even somewhat quiet, radio. If you're in a hallway with one end, wood floors, tile walls (shouldn't happen if you have some sense) and you keep it directly in front of you 10 ft away, yeah then you can hear it, and it will compete with your somewhat loud radio about evenly. Actually the "blow off" sound is far louder than the actual compressor. I've also heard older fridges that are at least as loud.

Functionally, it's all you could want. You really have to be rolling with two guns powerful guns to overload it when framing a house. It certainly won't slow you down much! It's a bit heavy but having the iron tanks and motor make it suitable for long lasting function. I'd like to work around someone who has the comparable Hitachi, but I bet it's louder and certainly no better. If you're really obsessive about the weight, retired, rich, and an avid hobbyist who's really going to use it often and move it a bunch, get some carbon scuba tanks and save about 30 pounds or more. I've considered doing that and would if I the tanks were about $50 apiece, but they're $500. I'd love to see someone do that and hear what the weight difference is, so if you do, drop me a line!

By the way, it might not be quite enough for 2 coil roofing nailers, if you were both fast roofers, then it might slow you down. I would try it since I own it, and I might be surprised, but my guess is that scenario is a bit too much. Haven't tried yet so let me know if it works or lags!

Outstanding Compressor

I bought this compressor to replace a 20yr old typical 2hp 11gal Craftsman. This little compressor is ~80 lbs and requires quite a bit of effort to move around. In my situtation it is not moved often which it works out fine. It is a lot quiter than my old compressor which my grandkids appreciate. It doesn't scare them as much as the Craftsman did. I am not particularly wild about the use of plastic air hoses in it's construction but I'm sure will last longer than I anticipate. Another negative is that you have to access 3 sides: 1) the front panel, 2) the right side for the off on switch, and 3) the rear for the drain valve. Seems to me that all controls could have been placed on the front where the black metal guard is installed. The instructions are a bit vague about break-in but I believe I did the break-in properly. It runs more when using a blow gun than my old one since it only holds about 1/3 as much air. Even with all these negatives I would buy it again. Reasons: 1) quiet, 2) much more portable than my Craftsman, 3) not oil less, 4) has 2 air outlets, 5) 4 large rubber feet so it stays put, 6) uses a ball valve for the drain, 7) gages are rigidly mounted, 8) appears to be very well constructed, 9) air filter seems to be a quality component, 10) changing oil should be easy since drain plug and fill are easily accessed, and 11) it is a Makita which I have had great success with. I read a lot of reviews about compressors but none, in this size and price range, had as many consistant favorable reviews. Unlike some reviews about shipping damage, mine came by FedEX in perfect shape. Not a scratch. Now I don't have the excuse that my compressor is impossible to move. My kids will finally get their houses worked on.

Arrived in perfect condition

I know there has been some concern about packaging issues. Mine arrived today and was packed perfectly; padded up in a very strong box. No dents or scratches. The compresor was in a plastic bag in the box. It couldn't move with all of the professional padding. The filter was even packaged separately in a bag. Maybe Makita has been reading the Amazon reviews and fixed their shipping problems.

i bought a mac700 and thought it was spectacular but i needed a little more air for a special type of tire system i install for bicycles. I was having trouble with only 2.6 gallons of air with larger tires so, i thought i would upgrade. the mac 2400 is a little louder but is still very quiet. I like the fact that is has 2 connects for air without having to use a splitter. The unit is very attractive and my clients think it looks cool too which, i think, is just as important as how quiet it is as well as how well it works. The larger storage capacity keeps my neighbors happy because it does not turn on as much. If i had it to do over again i would have dropped the extra $100.00 and bought the MAC2400 first. i now have purchased 4 mac700 for clients and i have the mac2400 for myself. Rock and Roll will live forever!!!!!

Editorial Review :

This one's a bit of a paradox: The do-it-yourselfer might pass by this compressor in favor of an oil-free, no-maintenance model, but it's actually one of the best on the market for the homeowner, hobbyist and weekend warrior.

There are three factors that made us form this opinion. First, it's the quietest compressor we've ever encountered. It's a remarkable departure in a genre of tools that normally force you to suspend conversation while it's cycling. The MAC700 puts out 80 decibels, according to the folks at Makita, and when you compare that to the 90 and up you get from most units, that's practically a hum. So we like this for household use, especially in a basement shop.

Next on our list of pluses for the DIY-er is the low-amp draw, and with that, fewer trips to the breaker box and less chance of premature motor failure. The other feature that won us over is the easy-on-the-hand lever handle ball valve that saves your knuckles when you drain the tank. It's also got a really fast cycle, so by the time you take a sip of water, you're ready to work again.

It's made like a champ, with a roll-bar handle that protects your investment, a cast-iron cylinder for durability and an oil sight glass that makes maintenance a breeze.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste

Compact quality compressor

I was a bit hesitant in ordering the Makita MAC700 compressor, due to a number of reviewers that received damaged units. My compressor arrived with a small hole and oil stain on one side of the shipping carton, but the contents were absolutely perfect. Follow the instructions to set up the compressor - and you will be happy. The build-quality, relative quietness, and specifications absolutely (and literally) blows away the "red pancake" unit seen and sold everywhere. I had one of those X-X brand red oil-free units, and quickly returned it, simply because I could not tolerate being in the same room with it. To appreciate this unit, you likely have to experience the "competition." In this compact compressor class, the MAC700 unit has no competition.

Great little compressor

I have had this compressor a little over a month now. It has been used heavily during a remodel project. It is lite enough to move around which was essential for me. It is one of the quietist small compressors I have been around. You can talk to someone while it is cycling and hear the conversation. It hands down beats any oiless model I've worked with. It has plenty of capacity to handle most all of my needs when it comes to nailers. I have even been using my framing nailer with it. It would not stand up to rapid use with a framer but I do not work that fast as I am usually working alone. I only gave this unit a four star rating because of the packaging. Many of the reviews I read described the packaging as poor and the unit arrived damaged. Well mine was definitely packaged poorly and the plastic motor shroud was cracked. This was purely cosmetic to me and I needed to use the compressor so I didn't bother with it. This is definitely its one downfall.

Great Compressor

Just got this compressor yesterday and I've already put it through the paces. I'm not sure if I got lucky or if a disproportionate amount of people feel compelled to write the negative reviews based on shipping damage; anyway, mine arrived just fine. This is quite possibly the best compressor value for less than $200. The build quality is excellent; near Rol-Air quality for 1/3 less. For those of you used to a oilless compressor this one almost sounds like a whisper. For you trim carpenters or weekend warriors, you will not be disappointed.

Hotdog purrs like a cat

I bought this compressor to replace my Campbell Hausfield 4 gallon compressor. The CH compressor was just too blasted loud; I live on the 2nd floor of a 3 floor condo building, and it would shake the place, vibrate the floors and sound like a Mac truck driving through. So when the reviews said this was very quiet, I decided to go ahead and give a try. It seemed like a good deal for the money. It is.

In a nutshell, here's what makes this compressor a great tool:

1. It is VERY QUIET. Some small compressors were actually rated quieter, but this is the quietest I've heard and it uses oil. Oil compressors simply last far longer than oil-less. This one even has a glass oil-sight gauge, so just one quick glance to ensure it is lubed. No dipstick mess, and it comes with oil.

2. It is heavy, so you know it is a solid tool. It weighs more than my old 4 gallon CH! It is easy to carry with the stacked design though, doesn't bang against your leg.

3. Nice little details, such as the drain valve is opened/closed with your fingers; no wrench required.

4. Though a smaller tank, it is still 2 HP as many 4 gallon models are, so I guess it just kicks on more often. But it won't bother you nearly as much as most; you can hold a conversation standing right next to it.

5. I can't believe this is a high-end brand compressor at this price. I would put it up against anything twice the price at any big box home improvement store. Highly recommended.

Compact & quiet

The compressor arrived from Amazon in perfect condition. I was a bit concerned that it would be damaged as so many reviews had mentioned. Luck of the draw I guess. The MAC700 is compact, quiet and cycles quickly. It is not as quiet as my DEWALT D55140 Heavy-Duty 1 Gallon but close. I bought the MAC700 to replace a PC pancake which screamed like a banshee. Overall, the MAC700 is a well balanced performer, powerfull enough for light framing but quiet enough for trim. The only negative is that it is heavy for its size.

perfect little machine

I purchased this compressor to help me with door casings and floor molding on a recent home renovation. I was delighted with the performance of this compressor, especially how quiet it runs. I have used pancake compressor before and they make you jump every time they recycle. This machine is barely audible as it hums when it runs versus banging away. I used a small nail finishing gun and the compressor only cycled every five minutes of so. I highly recommend this compressor for its portability, quiet running and reserve capacity.

Question : Air compressor?
Is a 7 lb air compressor a good size compressor to have to for small projects around the house? I would use it for trim, blowing up tires, small projects around the house.

Answer:
I have a 6lb air compressor for my garage and use it for small projects. It works great so far. I suppose you can always buy a bigger one no matter which one you buy. I bought mine from this site. The husky one. http://www.safety-devices.com/husky6g.htm

Question : My Air Compressor releases cold and low pressure, how do I fix this?
I have a two stage IR STATIONARY AIR COMPRESSOR 13HP. When its cold at night the air compressor pressure goes very slow even when i release all the air and water in the condensation tank. The pressure that comes out of the air lines to move the air tool is so slow that the air tool does not move. How do i solve this problem when I am working in the cold weather.

Answer:
Check to see if your regulator is frozen or damaged. You can do this by taking it off, and connecting the hose with out it.

Question : Does anyone think a harbor freight air compressor is good or stay away?
I am looking at buying a air compressor and harbor freight is the cheapest and the best it seams they sale this brand called central pneumatic. The air compressor is 21 gallons and is a 3hp motor. It also has a 7 scfm @ 40 and a 4.9 @ 90 and a 4.3 @ 115 is this a good air compressor from harbor freight. Or should i stay away from the brand.

Answer:
This is a very good product. I have many tools by this brand and never had any problems at all. I also have an air compressor and it works great. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Question : Should an Air Compressor blow off excess pressure at the crankcase?
I have a used 2 stage air compressor powered by an 5hp electric motor via a drive belt. The compressor is a two stage, it has a V shaped pump with one large and one small cylinder head. The large cylinder head has a small metal line coming from the top of the head, comes down and enters the crankcase via a fitting. The small cylinder head also has a line coming from the top of it's head and comes down and enters the through the side of the crankcase. The fitting that connects this line to the crankcase blows out air when the compressor is on. A friendly know-it-all said it was supposed to be this way to blow off excess pressure, but that doesn't make sense to me. Should this line (about the diameter of a metal brake line on a car) make an airtight seal where it enters the side of the pump crankcase or is this fitting designed to blow off excess pressure inside the crankcase? The compressor does shut off when psi reaches 100. The fittings on the line in question are tight. There is a threaded hole in the side of the crankcase, a square fitting with threaded rounded corners fits between the crankcase and the line coming from the secondary cylinder. I thought I once read that the crankcases on some air pumps are pressurized to reduce piston blowby, and I can see this being used for that, but if that's the case it seems there shouldn't be a strong blast of air coming from the fitting on the side of the crankcase. Again, it's a round hole with a square threaded adapter, and because you have a square inside a circle, you have open space around the side of the square for air to escape. This is the way we got the compressor, so I don't know if this is the way it came or someone just didn't have the right parts to repair it at one time. TY

Answer:
Yes, this compressor is operating correctly. Some compressors operate with automatic stop/start controls, which shut the compressor off when the proper pressure is reached. Other compressors have constant speed controls which uses a pneumatic (air) control line connected to a device which will hold the intake valves open to prevent more air pressure from building up once the desired pressure has been reached. This type of compressor will run in an "idle" mode when it has reached the proper pressure, and it will go back to normal compression mode when the pressure drops. Also, some larger compressors have the ability to bleed off the pressure from the top of the cylinder upon shutting down, so that the compressor motor will not have to start up under a large load. Unless you are simply talking about a loose fitting, there does not seem to be a problem with your machine.

Question : What value is there in air compressor tank sizes?
If I bought a 2 gallon air compressor or a 200 gallon air compressor, what is the difference, why is it important? I understand that the compressor would have to run more often on a smaller tank, but is this a bad thing?

Answer:
By having the sure volume of air you can operate your tools better, say your blowing out a water sprinkler system, the 2 gallon of air will not do it as theres not enough air to clear the pipes, and the compressor running will not deliver enough volume to do the job, same as an air tool that takes 90 psi to run, having 200 gallons of air will run the tool say 5 min without waiting for more air to run the tool, and the 2 gallon would only turn the tool for say 15-20 seconds before you have to wait for more volume of air to pump up..............

Question : What kind of air compressor should I buy for spraying automobiles?
What kind of air compressor should I buy for spraying automobiles? Let me know the hp and how many gallons the compressor should have for use in a place like a body shop. Thanks.

Answer:
you need at least a 5.5 hp compressor. I've painted a car with a pancake compressor. I know you've seen the compressors that stand upright, like they're on a dollie. One of these will be fine, don't go buy some 10hp big ass compressor. Use your money to buy a quility paint gun. Look up bink online. They are reasonable.

Question : Can I use my air compressor and a spray gun for the following paint jobs?
All interior work: I want to prime and latex paint some walls. I also want to finish oil painting the basement cement floor. The air compressor is an oiless 8 gallon 150 psi electric model It easily powers an impact gun has a regulator knob and two gauges. The primer is the thickest of the liquids which I want to spray. I got a HVLP Spray Gun It has a 2.0 mm tip, All metal construction, and Brass Fan Nozzle with one quart dripless cup. Runs at 20 to 45 psi with 1/4 nps inlet. It has a Air Control, Spray Control, and Fluid Control for making adjustments. Any advice is appreciated.

Answer:
The HVLP is the way to go and I would keep the psi down to 30 or so to control the overspray. I also think that your 8 gallon tank is sufficient.
